Result: Lorenzo Musetti beat Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4 in the Lyon Open final on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The win ends Musetti’s four-year title drought — his first ATP title since Naples in October 2022, and the third title of his career. Musetti, the sixth seed, also ends a run of seven straight lost ATP finals.
Musetti took the first set 6-3 and closed out the second 6-4. The title is worth 250 ranking points and €115,195 in prize money; Fritz, the runner-up, takes 165 points and €67,200. For Fritz, the defeat dents his late push for the ATP Finals in Turin — it was his fifth final of 2026, with only one title from them.
Lorenzo Musetti and Taylor Fritz met in the Lyon Open final on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 14:30 local time in Lyon, France. Fritz was the favorite on paper, but Musetti led their head-to-head and had won four of their last five meetings — and he reached this final the hard way, saving four match points in the semifinal.
Here is how the final played out, and how both men got here.
How Fritz reached the final
Second seed Taylor Fritz beat fellow American Tommy Paul 6-3, 7-5 in Saturday’s semifinal. His serve did the damage: 15 aces, and all nine break points he faced saved. Paul threatened to force a deciding set and held three set points in the second, but Fritz broke for 6-5 and served out the match.
The win gave Fritz his fifth final appearance of the season and moved him ahead of Paul into 12th place in the race to qualify for the ATP Finals. He was chasing his 12th career ATP Tour title.
How Musetti reached the final
Sixth seed Lorenzo Musetti beat top seed Flavio Cobolli 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 in the other semifinal — a comeback that nearly ended in defeat. Musetti saved four match points in the final set before closing out the 7-5 decider, committing just 22 unforced errors to Cobolli’s 36.
It was Musetti’s second final appearance of the season, and it came after a draining week: a three-and-a-half-hour quarterfinal and two late-night matches before the semifinal. He is the world No. 26 and was chasing his third ATP title — and his first since Naples in October 2022.
Head-to-head: Musetti leads
Musetti leads the head-to-head 4-3 against Fritz and has won four of their last five meetings. That history mattered on a day when Fritz, the bigger server, started as the bookmakers’ favorite.
This was Musetti’s tenth ATP final. The win ended a four-year title drought and gave his season a completely different ending. For Fritz, defeat dented a season in which he has already reached five finals and weakened his push for the ATP Finals.
What decided the final
Fritz’s serve. Fifteen aces and nine break points saved against Paul was the form of a man serving with total confidence — but Musetti found a way through it in the final.
Musetti’s legs. The Italian had played the longer, later matches all week, yet he held up over two sets and closed the match out 6-4 in the second.
The first set. Musetti lost the first set in his semifinal and still won. Against Fritz’s serve, falling behind early would have been a much bigger risk — instead, Musetti took the first set 6-3 and never let go.
